About

In the spring of 2018 I received an exciting offer: would I like to come to Vancouver, B.C. and study northern goshawks at Simon Fraser University? Yes! Since I was already mostly living out of my car (if you’ve worked as field tech, you know what I’m talking about) all I had to do was give my current boss a little warning and then start driving north. Easy, right?

Ok, it wasn’t that I thought graduate school would be easy, I just… didn’t think it would be this hard. But it’s also been fun. And educational (which I guess is the point). And definitely rewarding. And I wanted a place to write about it, so I started this blog. No one reads it except my mom but that’s ok. (hi Mom! And if you’re not my mom, welcome!)

I’m really excited about the concept of open science, which is one of the reasons I’m writing. But I also do other stuff (like travel, and cook lots and lots of food) that I wanted to write about. In particular, Vancouver is a fantastic city and Canada is an amazing country, and I want to record some of my experiences living here.

I’m glad you stopped by, and I hope you like my blog.
